Thermal comfort in a room with exposed roof using evaporative cooling in Delhi

Summary

The temperature and humidity in a room in Delhi with a roof exposed to solar radiation, and with a direct evaporative cooler, were determined for different times of the year using computer simulations, and the results compared with those for a room with an unexposed roof. During April and May, the room with an exposed roof required a slight increase in the cooled air flow rate to achieve conditions within the extended comfort zone defined by the air dry bulb temperature, relative humidity, and air speed. In June, the ambient air was very hot and humid, and conditions in the room with the exposed roof were not within the extended comfort zone, but discomfort levels were mitigated. 7 refs.
