The Ford Motor Company recently unveiled the world’s largest living roof at their truck plant in Dearborn, Michigan. The 10.4-acre roof is composed of a specially layered bed planted with sedum, a drought-resistant perennial groundcover. The roof is virtually maintenance-free, can absorb up to 4 million gallons of rainwater annually, provides natural overhead insulation for the final assembly building and is expected to last twice as long as a traditionally constructed roof.
