WRAP has announced
the appointment of three new non executive directors to its Board. Maggie Jones
(Baroness Jones of Whitchurch), Jenny Watson and Andy Hinton will take up their
posts on 1st September 2007.
The appointments form part of WRAP’s ongoing strategy to ensure that it
continues to draw upon the best skills and industry experience available in
its key aim of encouraging everyone to recycle more things, more often.
Liz Goodwin, WRAP’s Chief Executive Officer, commented:
“I am looking forward to welcoming such a talented trio to WRAP. Maggie,
Jenny and Andy are sure to spark new ideas and bring valuable additional input
to the organisation, both at a strategic level and with reference to specific
projects. In addition, their combined expertise gives WRAP access to additional
counsel in the fields of communications, business investment and technology.”
Maggie Jones, Baroness Jones of Whitchurch, is a trade union official and Labour
politician. She was Chair of the Labour Party from 2000 to 2001 and now sits
on the Environment Select Committee of the House of Lords. She is also a trustee
of homeless charity Shelter and a director of the School Food Trust. In addition
to political acumen, she brings a wealth of experience in the ‘third sector’
to WRAP.
Jenny Watson is currently Chair of the Equal Opportunities Commission and a
member of the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) Advertising Advisory Committee.
She is also a director of Global Partners and Associates, a business which she
co-founded in 2004. A former Deputy Chair of the Banking Code Standards Board
and of the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management, Jenny’s background
in the communications field and her experience working with governments, international
institutions, charitable foundations and businesses is of particular interest
to WRAP as it seeks to develop more strategic partnerships.
Andy Hinton has an excellent track record in business in the environmental
sector. He led the management buy-out and subsequent sale of White Rose Environmental,
the UK’s leading clinical waste management company. Together with his business
partner, he set up venture capitalists Ailsa3 Ventures in 2004. The company
specialises in bringing together and developing specialist waste and environmental
businesses in complementary niche markets with a view to sharing sales, knowledge
and technology advantages.
These new appointments coincide with the retirement of two of WRAP’s founding
non executive directors, Nick Francis and George Fleming, who, having served
a full six year term, will stand down at the Annual General Meeting in October.
WRAP thanks them for their valuable contributions over this period.
