A 4.8-km rail tunnel will be constructed by NCC Construction Norway.
This is NCC’s second tunnel project that aims at improving the rail connection between Oslo and Skien. NCC is a leading property development and construction company among other similar companies in the Nordic region. NCC is involved in the construction of infrastructure that includes offices, housing, civil engineering, roads etc.
Evacuation tunnels between Larvik and Porsgrunn will also be part of this construction assignment. This rail tunnel will run for about 150 km southwest of Oslo with total length of 8.8 km as the evacuation tunnels stretch over 4 km.
Jernbaneverket, a Norwegian National Rail Administration, is the customer and this assignment is valued more than SEK 1.2 billion. This amount will be included in the order book for the Q2 of 2012.
The parameters taken into consideration in this tender process include consideration of the lowest price and the contractors’ ability to deliver and overall expertise. Hakon Tjomsland, NCC Construction Norway’s Regional Director, stated that the company supports the evaluation carried out on resources, expertise and organization as this evaluation will indeed provide benefits to all concerned parties.
This tunnel construction project is scheduled to begin in August 2012 and it will be completed in June 2016.
