ICC Evaluation Services Announces New Acceptance Criteria for Concrete Reinforcing Steel Bars

Announcing the new AC 429 Acceptance Criteria for High-Strength Reinforcing Steel Bars by the International Commercial Code (ICC) Evaluation Services who developed the International Building Code (IBC) has contributed to an increase in demand for high-strength concrete reinforcing steel bars (rebar) up to 100 ksi. This announcement has kept the market for MMFX2 (ASTM A1035) Grade 100 (690 MPa) rebars afloat.

The rebar allows the building of sturdier, safer and more economical structures, addressing tough design and building challenges.

The Acceptance Criteria provide lucid international building code stipulations on designing buildings with the Grade 100 (690 MPa) rebar and were founded on the American Concrete Institute (ACI)ITG-6R-10 Design Guide for the Use of ASTM A1035/A1035M Grade 100 (690) Steel Bars for Structural Concrete. The strong MMFX2 (ASTM A1035) Grade 100 (690 MPa) rebar sold by MMFX Steel Corporation of America in America and by MMFX Steel DMCC in the Middle East enables the construction of buildings with 20ƒ{50% lesser steel and about 60% decreased expenses on labor. Designers can mitigate rebar congestion issues and builders can complete building projects on time, increasing cost savings. MMFX2 rebar is also more malleable than other high-strength steel bars, promoting its fabrication even with standard fabrication tools. It has better corrosion resistance, affording durability to structures and mitigates issues regarding specific handling for products such as the recoated bars.
