Regency Centers Wins Award for Lighting Energy Efficiency in Parking Campaign

Regency Centers, a national owner, operator, and developer of grocery-anchored shopping centers, announced today that it won the inaugural Lighting Energy Efficiency in Parking (LEEP) campaign award as part of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Better Buildings Alliance initiative.

The company won the award for the “Highest Percentage Savings in a Retrofit at a Single Parking Facility” for its Rona Plaza shopping center located in Santa Ana, CA.

The LEEP campaign supports and recognizes parking facility owners and operators who have installed energy-efficient lighting solutions. “By participating in the LEEP campaign, our partners are saving energy, improving their bottom lines and serving as models for other organizations to increase the use of energy efficiency in their communities,” said Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy David Danielson.

Regency Centers is committed to being an industry leader in sustainability. To deliver on this commitment, the company has aggressively pursued the implementation of high-efficiency lighting technologies across its portfolio. These technologies provide significant environmental benefits and reduced energy and maintenance costs, but also provide superior lighting quality and improve the nighttime curb appeal of their shopping centers. The Rona Plaza site installed best in class LED fixtures equipped with a state-of-the-art wireless control system. Combined, the new lighting system reduces energy use by 88% compared to the previous technology.

“The real pride from this award comes from the bigger picture,” said Mark Peternell, Regency’s Vice President of Sustainability. “We are a strong believer in LED technology and the numerous benefits it provides. Not only are we saving energy and reducing operating expenses, but we’re also improving the way our shopping centers look. The LEEP award is a wonderful honor, and we are thrilled to be a part of such a prestigious group of participants.”
