Swinerton Completes Restoration of Bank of America Center in Pasadena, Wins Historical Renovation Award

Bank of America and Jones Lang LaSalle recently celebrated the successful opening of the Bank of America Center in Pasadena, following a two year restoration project completed by Swinerton Builders Los Angeles. Originally designed in 1974 by Edward Durell Stone, the structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Upon completion of the job the project team was honored with a 2014 Historical Renovation Award for Landscape by the City of Pasadena Historic Preservation Commission.

Work involved a complete reconstruction of the corporate landscape plaza due to a declining waterproofing system. The scope included a new waterproofing system, matching all existing surface paving materials, restoration to existing benches, and new landscaping, soil, irrigation, and drains. The existing water feature remained, requiring new waterproofing and necessitating removal and replacement of the existing water tile.

The careful renovation by Swinerton's Special Projects team included measures to preserve any remaining historic materials, features, and spatial relationships which recreated the appearance of the non-surviving historic property in materials, design, color, and texture. This was based on the accurate duplication of the features and elements substantiated by documentary and/or physical evidence. Swinerton is proud to have contributed toward the preservation of the Bank of America Center, an iconic historic building with a now bright future in Pasadena.
