Firestone Building Products Announces Introduction of Secure Bond Technology

Firestone Building Products Company, LLC, a leading manufacturer and supplier of a comprehensive "Roots to Rooftops" product portfolio, introduced today its revolutionary Secure Bond™ Technology. Designed to be the next generation in fully adhered roof system application, Secure Bond Technology ensures adhesion coverage across the entire roofing membrane, establishing the most powerful bond possible. Firestone Building Products announced it will offer UltraPly™ TPO SA and RubberGard™ EPDM SA with Secure Bond™ Technology.

Firestone Building Products RubberGard(TM) EPDM SA with Secure Bond(TM) Technology is the first EPDM SA available on the market today, which is truly a game changer for the industry.

"Firestone Building Products RubberGard EPDM SA with Secure Bond Technology is the first EPDM SA available on the market today, which is truly a game changer for the industry," said Joe Marzahl, product manager with Firestone Building Products. "Both RubberGard EPDM SA and UltraPly TPO SA with Secure Bond Technology can be installed in temperatures as low as 20 and as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit, giving contractors the benefit of being able to install a fully adhered system any time of year without letting the weather dictate their schedule."

In addition to extending the installation window, Secure Bond Technology has a self-bonding membrane engineered to stick, eliminating the time needed to apply adhesives and wait for flash off. This results in a potential installation time that is up to 10 times faster than traditional methods. UltraPly TPO SA and RubberGard EPDM SA with Secure Bond Technology also have no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and do not emit odor during or after installation.

"With no odor, it is safe to install while buildings are occupied; ideal for use in schools and hospitals, where concerns about odor can make it difficult to install a fully adhered system," said Mike Mendoza, TPO product manager with Firestone Building Products. "We are committed to making life easier for our hardworking commercial roofing professionals and upholding our promise that 'Nobody Covers You Better™.'"

Other features of UltraPly TPO SA and RubberGard EPDM SA with Secure Bond Technology include:

  • Does not require primer to install on all approved substrates, roof and walls
  • Easy application eliminates the need for buckets, adhesives, rollers, sprayers, mixers and other tools that can create hazards on a cluttered rooftop and a time consuming cleanup
  • FM tested and approved
  • Meets or exceeds all ASTM requirements
  • Features the longest shelf life of any self-adhered product, with storage capability up to 18 months
  • Covered by the Firestone Building Products Red Shield™ Warranty

Firestone Building Products also announced today its new RubberGard™ EPDM Solvent-Free Bonding Adhesive that allows contractors to complete more work in less time, assisting when projects come with manpower, logistics or regulations constraints. RubberGard EPDM Solvent-Free Bonding Adhesive is an LVOC application with near zero VOCs, and it is non-hazardous and non-flammable. It does not require mixing and its wet lay application allows contractors to mate the RubberGard™ EPDM membrane as soon as the adhesive has been applied. Its one-sided application allows for the best coverage rate of any EPDM bonding adhesive in the market today.

UltraPly TPO SA with Secure Bond Technology and RubberGard EPDM Solvent-Free Bonding Adhesive are available for purchase now. RubberGard™ EPDM SA with Secure Bond™ Technology will be available in April 2015.
