Environmentally-Friendly Fairfield Manor Housing Community Opens for Seniors

Fairfield Manor, an affordable housing community for seniors, opens this week and residents are already moving into their apartments. Construction features of the property were designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification, with state of the art environmentally-friendly features.

Such sustainable building practices bring a host of benefits to residents including lower utility bills, native landscaping, and natural light. It also brings economic benefits to Florida as many materials must be locally sourced—75 percent of them within a 75 mile radius of the property.

Most notable is the Solar Photo Voltaic system that will provide 100 percent of the energy to all common areas of the building. It will run the elevators, light the corridors, and run computers in the offices as well as appliances in the common kitchen area. The units will benefit from state of the art heating and cooling units, high-efficiency water heaters, water-saving showers and plumbing fixtures. They also contain ENERGY STAR appliances, light fixtures, and ceiling fans.

The affordable housing community has 92 units made up of one and two bedroom apartments. The complex is now 70 percent leased. Those remaining apartments are designated to seniors 62 years and up on limited incomes. Seniors 55-61 years may be placed on a waiting list. Amenities include a pool, community room, hair salon, library, computer room, workout room, a gazebo, a shuffle board, and an area for gardening.

It is the second affordable housing community that The Paces Foundation has built in Florida. The first was also awarded a LEED Platinum certification and is located in Panama City.

Tours of the property will follow the grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting, which is open to the public. Come learn why Florida needs more communities like Fairfield Manor.
