Alcan has been selected by the
renowned Scandinavian architect, Henning Larsen to supply ALUCOBOND(R)
composite panels as cladding material for the new Copenhagen opera house in
the heart of the Danish capital.
"For Alcan, it is always a welcome challenge to contribute materials,
technologies and innovative solutions for ambitious architectural projects
like the new Copenhagen opera house", said Claus Leyting, President
Architecture Alcan Composites. "We are very proud of the fact that Henning
Larsen selected our ALUCOBOND(R) composite panels as cladding material for the
roof that visually dominates the entire structure", he added.
The new cultural center, which is home to the Danish national opera, was
opened by the Danish Prime Minister and Queen Margareth of Denmark in 2005. It
has since become a new landmark of Copenhagen, combining its historical
heritage with modern architecture and bringing to life 21st century
technologies and lifestyle.
The structure for the 9,000 square-metre is covered with mat silver
metallic ALUCOBOND(R) composite panels in which the towers and spires of old
Copenhagen are reflected, realizing the architect's artistic vision of
creating a giant mirror with the opera house's surface. This is another
example of how ALUCOBOND(R)'s outstanding properties make it the material of
choice for architects seeking advanced aesthetic and technical solutions and
builders who require a combination of economic and ecological benefits.
