Mercer + Tan
Specialist panels from ARM Buildings have been installed in a new £2.7 million, three-storey building constructed for the Chinese Overseas Christian Mission (COCM) in Milton Keynes.
Designed by London-based architectural practice, Mercer + Tan, the project was commissioned by COCM to offer residential religious study. The 1900m² building which was featured in the recent RIBA Neighbourhoods by Design Exhibition, provides offices for teaching staff and the Mission Centre, seminar rooms, library, dining and social areas as well as 40 bedrooms for the students.
The panels form an integral part of the construction.
Panels are constructed to precise dimensions to aid speedy erection.
Thermally efficient properties – laminated construction – eliminates cold-bridging.
Frameshield waterproofing vapour barrier as part of panel, providing a degree of protection before the final cladding is installed.
Panels are cleat bolted to the concrete structure – using fast-track fixing systems.
Claddings – Western Red Cedar on two upper storeys with Cembonit at the ground floor level.
Review and Comment
“We were looking for a tried and tested prefabricated timber panel system which could span the floors on the outside of the building, has integrated insulation, could carry the external cladding and was economic”
Stuart Mercer - Partner, Mercer + Tan
“ARM’s panel system suited our site time scale requirements”.
