Insulating Masonry Cavity Walls: Techniques And Materials

Summary

With increasing pressure to provide ever thicker levels of insulation, there is concern that thermally upgrading conventional cavity walls consisting of two leaves of masonry may prove impracticable. Techniques and materials for insulating cavity walls are discussed with particular reference to full cavity, partial cavity, and dry lining insulation techniques and to mineral wool and plastics insulation materials.  Materials for, and use of, wall ties and insulation clips are also dealt with.  14 refs.
