Waterproofing Of Ceramic Tiling Backgrounds

Summary

Recommendations for "the execution of waterproofings in combination with ceramic floor and wall coverings in interiors and exteriors" published on behalf of the German Ceramic Industry Association in 2000 are briefly examined.  The recommendations divide the presence of moisture and water on tiling into four classes: eventual splashes of water for a brief period of time; presence of continuous water or for a long period, without water stagnation; constructions in exteriors; and continuous presence of water  or for a long period, without water stagnation, and presence  of aggressive media/cleaning products and/or high mechanical  load.  Suitable waterproofing materials and the properties to which they should comply, backgrounds for waterproofing, background requirements, and execution of the waterproofing are outlined.
