Procedures For Repair Of Pathologies In Ceramic Facade Claddings

A methodology developed for the diagnosis, prevention and repair of detachments in ceramic facade claddings was applied to the case of a residential 13-floor building located in a middle-class neighbourhood in the area west of the city of Sao Paulo.  The case arose as a result of claims  that there were safety risks due to tiles falling on a walkway alongside the building.  Specified repair work carried out was not solving the problem.  Diagnosis of the problem involved four phases: inspection, interviews, anamnesis (establishing preceding history), and analysis (establishing cause/effect relations).  The treatment to be adopted is defined, and the extent of the problem was established.  The durability and reliability of the proposed  repair is finally considered.  3 refs.
