Summary |
A model for differential ground movement is presented. The model is capable of estimating key parameters of the imposed deformations based on available climatic records for the site. These key parameters include the length of the corner effect zone on external walls, the length of the edge effect zone on internal walls, and the measure of the extremes of the differential movement over that length. The development of the model is detailed and results of numerical simulations of ground movement for sites typical of three Australian cities, namely Melbourne, Newcastle and Adelaide, are presented. Examples of imposed deformation plots for masonry walls of a house in Melbourne are presented for random construction dates. 8 refs. |
