Eco-carat: A Health-assisting Building Material

Summary

Development of Eco-Carat, a building material made from allophane which contains millions of micropores, is described. Allophane, when fired at a low temperature, has excellent humidity absorption and good strength. Comparing the pore size distribution of this material with other interior tiles shows that Eco-Carat has a balanced distribution of micropores and macropores. Eco-Carat can also improve interior air quality by adsorbing volatile organic compounds. 3 refs.
