Flat glass waste offers industry various opportunities for reuse and recycling, which will divert the valuable resource away from landfill sites. The BRE Centre for Research Management is undertaking a one-year WRAP (waste and resource action programme)-funded project which aims to enable increased glass recycling through assessing the recycling opportunities for flat glass and window and door frame waste from the demolition and replacement window industries. WRAP was established in 2001 by the UK Government in recognition of the need to promote sustainable waste management. Its particular focus is creating stable and effective markets for recycled materials and products. The four key phases of the BRE project, which is being carried out in partnership with various organisations, are listed.
