Assessment Of Static And Dynamic Failure Characteristics Of Mortar Joints In Unreinforced And ...

Summary

Test results are presented as part of an ongoing project investigating the response of reinforced and unreinforced masonry subject to vehicle impacts.  Several standard tests were used in conjunction with a number of specially developed quasi-static and impact tests. The tests were used  to determine the material characteristics and have considered both quasi-static and impact loads.  This has allowed an assessment to be made of: the shear and tensile bond strengths of the brick/mortar interface; fracture energy characteristics; crack propagation characteristics; and the interaction between the reinforcement and the masonry.  14 refs.
