Argues that the significance of chillers cannot be overstated - they are the highest cost component of a HVAC system, they can have a tremendous impact on energy costs, operating requirements, service agreements and the environment. Presents the results of a survey of eight members of the HPAC Engineering Editorial Advisory Board who are well-versed in the multitude of issues surrounding chiller ownership. The topics discussed are - first cost vs. life cycle cost, environmental impact, chiller and system types and operations and maintenance. The aim is to help engineers assist building owners in making more-informed decisions about chillers.
