An overview to designing smoke-control systems

Summary

Notes that in the case of fire, flight can be impossible from buildings such as large volume buildings, tall buildings, transit tunnels and underground buildings and for physically disabled people, penal inmates, some hospital inmates and security personnel at sensitive installations. For these types of occupants and buildings, smoke control systems provide an added measure of protection. Provides an introduction to smoke-control systems. Deals with terminology, applicable authorities in the US, smoke control development, smoke control methods and equipment. Concludes with a list of typical preparations needed for designing smoke control systems and a list of common design challenges.
