Describes the SmartWater spray system, a building security device that is activated by alarms and detection systems to spray intruders with water containing coded particles. The residue on skin and clothing can subsequently be viewed under ultraviolet light to associate individuals with a crime scene. Explains that the system is manufactured under licence by the Government's Forensic Science Service, with every coded batch being registered on the FSS national database. The minutest trace of the liquid is said to be sufficient for identification purposes, and over 100 criminals have been caught so far by the system.
