Describes the role of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems as crime prevention devices. Statistics are presented for the relationship between CCTV and crime rates, and explains how the use of CCTV must comply with the Data Protection Act and the Human Rights Act. Explains how the large investment CCTV can be rendered worthless through poor maintenance, and presents solutions for the management and auditing of video tapes.
