VOC emissions from dusty air filters

Summary

Reports on measurements of emissions from dust collected from air filters in the city of Helsinki. The results indicated that most of the carbon content of the particles is bound in semi-volatile compounds and particulate organic material. Some odorous compounds, especially aldehydes, carboxylic acids, and aromatics, were emitted already at relatively low temperatures, and can be assumed to contribute to the odour released from dirty filters.
