Counter attack

Developments in the traditional brick and block construction housebuilding sector to maintain market share in the face of pre-fabricated systems are discussed. Initiatives include the training of skilled bricklayers, the use of thin-joint mortars and large-format concrete blocks to increase speed, and the introduction of alternative building systems. These include the building of solid or cavity blockwork walls on solid aircrete foundations using a rapid setting mortar. Pre-assemblies of components such as arches are also available.
