Part L and the role of sealants

Summary

Sealants for gaps and joints on external building surfaces are briefly reviewed in relation to the requirements of Part L of the Building Regulations. Sealant types described include: neutral cure and acetoxy cure silicones, acrylics, impregnated foams, polyurethane canister foams, and foam tapes. All flow or expand to fill the gap, and subsequently expand and contract in response to building movement to maintain a weather-proof seal.
