Development of a new building material with the function of air humidity control


In order to control humidity in airtight Japanese houses, a  new type of plaster has been developed based on portlandite and sepiolite raw materials. Sheets of different raw material ratio were prepared and their water vapour absorption/desorption characteristics examined so as to evaluate their self-control of humidity. The results indicated that the water vapour absorption was greater for the sheet containing mostly sepiolite. In this case, the absorption/desorption site was more mesoporous and microporous than macroporous. The influence of carbonation was also investigated. 11 refs.
