Advanced glass innovations from solutia

Summary

A polyvinyl butyral interlayer is a resilient protective interlayer used to make laminated glass for automotive and architectural applications.  It provides enhanced protection  from UV rays, reduced noise levels, and improved safety and security.  By superimposing up to four interlayers, more than 600 different colours of laminated glass can be obtained.  In the automotive sector, a material has been introduced which has up to sixty times the intrusion resistance of standard toughened glass.  As well as blocking  up to 95% UV light, a glass can be designed to reflect IR rays.  From a safety point of view, the glass invariably stays adhered to the interlayer even when cracked as may happen in a collision.
