Company Background

Across the world, Daniel Platt’s fine quality, traditional clay roof tiles and floor tiles bring exceptional levels of natural beauty to both private homes and public buildings.

Manufactured at the company’s Brownhills Tileries in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, each product is the result of traditional skills passed down from generation to generation, where the richest Eutruria Marl is painstakingly turned into the finest natural clay tiles.

World-renowned for their high quality, the carefully selected Staffordshire clay seams used by Daniel Platt are rich in Iron Oxide, which is largely responsible for the hardness and immense durability of the flooring and roofing products manufactured from these clays.

Established in Tunstall in 1822, Daniel Platt’s history can be traced back even further. In 1978 the company acquired the respected family firm of Wheatly & Co. of Springfield Tileries in Newcastle-under-Lyme, a firm synonymous with manufacturing the famous “Triton” brand and with a history dating beyond 1819.

In 1982, Wheatly’s Springfield Tileries were closed, and their long-established Triton brand was merged into Daniel Platt’s comprehensive range. Transferred with these products were many of the traditional tile maker’s skills – and it is these skills, combined with Daniel Platt’s own commitment to traditional techniques and use of only the finest natural products - that have helped make the Daniel Platt range what it is today.

Today, more than ever before, architects require a greater level of product individuality to complement their designs. By their very nature, Daniel Platt flooring and roofing products offer a level of individuality, texture and colour that is rarely available in modern methods of mass manufacture.

RIBA Accreditation

Always keen to promote the correct use of its flooring products across the industry as a whole, Daniel Platt has been appointed to the RIBA CPD Providers Network – the network supporting RIBA’s programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for members.

As part of the CPD programme, RIBA member are required to attend a specified number of seminars every year. Topics covered can include such items as building products, services and best practice techniques.

Commenting on Daniel Platt’s RIBA CPD accreditation, National Sales Manager, Mark Malsom said: “ At Daniel Platt we offer a wealth of information to architects, specifiers and indeed anybody selecting our flooring products.
”The breadth of the information we can provide is considerable and extends from the actual quarrying and production processes involved in the manufacture of our tiles, right through to product selection and correct fitting, laying and cleaning.”

As part of their commitment to the RIBA CPD programme, Daniel Platt has put together a forty-five minute presentation, covering all aspects of the company’s products and services.
“We are proud to be associated with the RIBA providers’ network of manufacturers, advisory organisations, universities and consultancies”, continued Mark Malsom, “especially as in achieving accreditation, we had to demonstrate that we could withstand the most rigorous of assessment processes.”
