New manual to provide guidance on garage doors

The Door & Shutter Manufacturers' Association ( DSMA ) is to publish a guide on the latest UK and European legislation relating to the design, manufacture and installation of domestic garage doors.

The two main European directives affecting safety are the Construction Products Directive and the Machinery Directive.

Both the door and the drive unit manufacturer have responsibilities for power-operated doors, and it is an offence to supply products which do not comply with the health and safety requirements. Doors must be designed and constructed such that they may be installed, maintained, repaired and used in a safe manner, which includes the supply of all necessary technical information.
