The possibility of creating a modular layer for roof tiles was investigated. The aim was to eliminate the white discolouration, which appears sporadically on glazed roof tiles, by means of an additional layer between the body and the glaze. It was necessary to find ways of permanently preventing the appearance of the white deposits, while at the same time replacing the lead-based glazes. Furthermore, high-quality surfaces and glazes possessing good chemical resistance should be obtained. The research work focused on developing and implementing a well-formed bonding layer between the body and glaze, as well as improving the chemical resistance of the boric-potassium glazes used. 4 refs.
