Lime Mortar with Recycled Glass Aggregate

The BRE is currently testing a unique lime mortar/plaster with sand aggregate replaced by recycled glass.

The tests are part funded by WRAP as part of a project to increase the recycling of building products. If successful in achieving certification, the new lime mortar/plaster could divert 1400 tonnes of glass from landfill every year.

The product is manufactured by Ty-Mawr Lime Ltd. It is currently mostly used to renovate old buildings, but it is increasingly being using as an environmentally-friendly option in new buildings. It has the same applications as normal plasters but could be used for other uses like decorative applications such as flooring screed.
