Concrete flooring finishes

Summary

A wide range of concrete floor finishes are available to suit the requirements of the end user. Surface grinding enhances the appearance and abrasion resistance. Dry-shake finishes may be used to harden the floor and to provide colour options. Decorative aggregates can also be added as a dry-shake system, producing terrazzo-style finishes after grinding and polishing. The cost is comparable to that of synthetic coatings, whilst providing superior service life. Alternatively, surface coverings including laminates, wood, vinyl, carpet and tiles may be used. Resins and screeds may be used on floors requiring high levels of abrasion and chemical resistance.
