Cash from clean-up

The Woodford Group, which specialises in buying, decontaminating and then reselling inner-city brownfield sites, prepared a 14 acre ex-silk and dye works site in the Kirklees Valley near to Bury for the building of houses. The project included clearing cellars containing asbestos, removing heavy pollution ( mainly hydrocarbons ) from large areas, clearing extensive fly-tipping and the removal of derelict buildings, including a tall chimney. A river flowing through the site was diverted at a cost equivalent to that of a bridge, but with the added benefit of adding an acre to the site and improving the amenity value of the river. The site was regraded to improve access and to reduce flooding.
