Properties

STRUXtm 90/40 fibre properties maximise:

  • Dispersion – the shape and stiffness of the fibres minimise ‘balling’ or ‘clumping’ of fibres – ensuring they are free to disperse amongst the mix
  • Pull out resistance – the shape, generally quadrilateral cross section, provides a higher surface area to volume ratio compared to oval/round fibres of compatible size – increasing pull out resistance
  • ‘Bendability’ – shape provides better flexibility to volume ratio in comparison to oval/round fibres – resisting balling and damage – shape controls ‘bendability’
  • Strength – the fibres are capable of resisting potential damage caused during mixing and the strength is consistent from fibre to fibre

Definitions

          Toughness

         A material’s ability to resist fracture when subjected to static strains or to dynamic or impact loads

          Flexural Toughness

         The area under the flexural load-deflection curve obtained up to a specified deflection

         Fe,3 – a measure of the residual load carrying capability, once cracked, up to a deflection of 3mm

          Fibre reinforcement

         DOES NOT increase failure strength or toughness

          Marshalls have changed the concrete mix to strengthen the initial failure strength of their products

         DOES increase post failure strength, toughness and flexural toughness
