Super Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel SAF 2507/UNS S32750 is a super duplex stainless steel designed for specific applications requiring high strength and excellent corrosion resistance especially in a variety of components in desalination plants, heat exchanger tubes in sea water cooling plants, drive shafts for ocean going vessels, containers for pulp & paper industry, tube & pipe systems at petrochemical refineries and more. Chemical Composition of Super Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel The chemical composition of super duplex 2507 stainless steel are summarised in table 1. Table 1. Chemical composition of super duplex 2507 | 0.020 | 25 | 7 | 4.0 | .27 | S=0.001 | PREN = [ Cr% ] + 3.3 [ Mo% ] + 16 [ N% ] >40 | Alloy SAF 2507 is not recommended for applications which require long exposures to 570Fand above, because of the risk of toughness reduction. Machinability of Super Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel Low speeds and constant feeds will minimize this alloy's tendency to work harden. Tougher than 304 and 316 stainless with a long stringy chip, the use of chip breakers is recommended. Forming, Welding and Hot Working of Super Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel Due its inherently higher yield strength, initial forming pressures must be higher than those required for standard 300 series stainless steel. Low ductility will make forming operations difficult. All common methods including GTAW, SAW and GMAW can be successfully employed for welding. Hot Working is the recommended method of forming. It may commence after heating to 1750-2000 F, followed by rapid cooling after working. For maximum properties material should be fully annealed after working.
