DURASHIELD® foam core building panels are lightweight and have excellent strength, insulation, and corrosion resistance. They have been used in the modular building business in one of the fastest growing cities in Illinois.
DURASHIELD® foam core building panels were used to partially create three pump houses for the City of Joliet. The Engineering Solutions Team designed the renovation of each building with the help of Strongwell’s Structural Engineering group.
A major concern from the earlier well houses was lack of maintenance and renovation access to the large water pumps because of the structurally static walls and roof. The updated design utilizing DURASHIELD® enabled the removal of the roof and walls, so a crane could be positioned to access the large water pumps.
Installation of DURASHIELD® Panels
For each building, 3" x 24" DURASHIELD® was used as siding and roofing panels, which have performed sucessfully in the field against 100 mph winds and 40 lb. snow loads in the past. Every tongue and groove panel has a 4 lb. per cubic foot of firm closed cell polyurethane foam core that registers an R-value of 17.
Adler Roofing bought and installed the 3" DURASHIELD® panel, and complemented the ease and simplicity of the panel’s fit, finish, quality, and tongue and groove design for all the pump houses. As the upgraded pump houses will last longer compared to the previous pump houses, they will guarantee years of maintenance-free service to the City of Joliet.
