The Linde Group, a technology group, declared that it has concluded a long-term accord to supply industrial gases to PT. Krakatau POSCO (PTKP), the Indonesian steel corporation. The accord was signed by PTKP and Linde Indonesia, an associate of The Linde Group.
PTKP is a partnership venture between Krakatau Steel and the South Korean steel corporation, POSCO. PTKP is in the process of building the integrated steelworks with an initial yearly manufacturing capability of 3 mt. The first of its kind project in Southeast Asia will be located at Cilegon around 100 km west of Jakarta.
In order to provide the steelworks the required gases on site, the engineering division of Linde will build a new air separation unit (ASU) to supply approximately 2,000 t of oxygen every day. The proposed ASU in addition to supplying the needed gaseous requirements for the steel works will also produce argon, nitrogen and oxygen in liquid format to meet the supply requirement of the local market. The new ASU is anticipated to be operational by October 2013.
