BASF’s Cool Color Challenge Offers To Match 'Hot' Roof Colors In ULTRA-Cool

BASF’s Industrial Coatings Solutions business has announced the “Cool Color Challenge,” a new program designed to not only promote cool-roof metal coatings in the construction industry, but also to showcase BASF’s expertise in matching “cool” colors.

BASF’s Cool Color Challenge is being introduced at the Metalcon International show in Chicago, October 4-6, 2005.

The challenge asks suppliers of metal roofing products who are currently using conventional metal coatings, but are interested in converting to cool coatings, to submit samples of their “non-cool” colors for matching in BASF’s ULTRA-Cool® technology. The challenge is open both to BASF customers and to suppliers that are not presently using BASF coatings.

“BASF pioneered cool-roof coatings, and we’re experts at matching conventional coating colors in our ULTRA-Cool systems,” said Tom McKay, Product/Marketing Manager of BASF’s Industrial Coatings Solutions business in North America.

“With the Cool Color Challenge, we invite current users of coated metal roofing products to ‘challenge’ us by submitting samples of ‘non-cool’ colors they’re using now.”

Those who wish to participate in the Cool Color Challenge by submitting color panels at BASF’s Metalcon exhibit (booth no. 812) will become eligible for a special prize drawing to be held at the end of the show. (Entry forms are required for participation and should be obtained in advance by contacting Danielle Robinson at (248) 948-2379.)

The Cool Color Challenge will continue after its Metalcon rollout. As part of the ongoing program, BASF will offer special incentives for those suppliers that, as a result of the Cool Color Challenge, convert their standard color palette to ULTRA-Cool coatings. More information about the program is available from BASF’s Customer Support Center at 800-758-2273. BASF’s ULTRA-Cool coatings are available, in both PVDF and siliconized polyester technologies, in three product lines: Fluoroceram® ULTRA-Cool (PVDF), Ultramet® ULTRA-Cool® (PVDF, pearlescent colors) and Superl® SP II® ULTRA-Cool® (siliconized polyester).

“We are proud of our market-leading expertise in matching non-cool colors in ULTRA-Cool technology,” said McKay. “This means we deliver both the color and the radiative properties to meet today’s specification limits for Title 24, LEED or ENERGY STAR. Nobody in the industry can match all colors, but we feel that we are the best and will continue to improve our capabilities in the future.

“Once users see that they can have ‘color that’s cooler,’ they will have little reason to settle for conventional non-cool coatings on metal roofing products.”
