Siemens Building Technologies Division Launches Desigo V5.1 Building Automation System

The Siemens Building Technologies Division is launching Desigo V5.1. Desigo V5.1 is the first and currently the only building automation system to support state-of-the-art technologies such as BACnet/IPv6, the latest Microsoft operating systems Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 as well as the AMEV1 recommendations, which are becoming increasingly important in German-speaking countries.

With the BACnet B-AWS (BACnet Advanced Workstation) profile, the associated management station Desigo Insight V5.1 is the first building automation management station to be certified under BACnet Revision 1.10.

Desigo V5.1 is the first building automation system to use the BACnet/IPv6 standard. Since the IP (Internet Protocol) addresses under the IPv4 standard have been exhausted, IPv4 will be replaced by IPv6 in the coming years. The BACnet/IPv6 standard allows future automation stations and operator units to be integrated into the IT structure via IP, thereby supporting entirely new applications in the "Internet of Things" of the future.

Existing Desigo installations can be upgraded to BACnet/IPv6 without any rewiring by using the Desigo V5.1 PXG3.. router. The proven BACnet/IPv4, BACnet/LonTalk and BACnet/MSTP communications protocols will continue to be supported in order to ensure compatibility with existing installations as well as with third-party devices and systems. As a result, Desigo V5.1 not only protects investments, but, thanks to BACnet/IPv6, is ready for the future.

Desigo V5.1 is the first building automation system on the market to fully implement the latest AMEV BACnet 2011 V1.1 recommendations. These recommendations for planning, building and operating different disciplines in public buildings are updated regularly by the German AMEV working group in order to promote the standardization of disciplines. Compliance with AMEV recommendations are now binding for public sector bids in German-speaking countries, and the AMEV guidelines are becoming increasingly important in other European countries as well.

Desigo TRA (Total Room Automation), the flexible and programmable room automation system, is a key component of the Desigo V5.1 system. In Version 5.1, additional KNX room operator units for wall mounting as well as new flush-mounted room sensors have been added to the Desigo TRA product range. The Desigo library of tested applications now contains new applications for air quality and demand-based ventilation (variable volumetric flow systems – VVS). With these system enhancements, Desigo TRA can now measure temperature as well as air quality and humidity in the room. The Desigo TRA product range includes new room operator units with or without display and control elements as well as the right sensors for any application.

With the BACnet B-AWS profile, Desigo Insight V5.1 is the first management station of a building automation system to be certified under BACnet Revision 1.10, which gives users additional control options. The B-AWS profile support also ensures better compatibility with the products of third-party manufacturers. Desigo Insight V5.1 is the very first building automation management station to run under the latest Microsoft operating systems Windows 8 (business versions) and Windows Server 2012 as well as SQL Server 2012.
