Komatsu Cummins Engine Company Co., Ltd. (KCEC), a joint-venture manufacturer of diesel engines between Komatsu Ltd. and Cummins Inc. in Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture in Japan, has achieved a major manufacturing milestone with the recent production of its 500,000th engine.

Established in 1993, KCEC commenced the production of Komatsu and Cummins-developed small diesel engines in 1995. KCEC has since produced Quality-and-Reliability-featured diesel engines by capitalizing on the Komatsu Group's advanced manufacturing technology accumulated over the years. These engines have been mounted on Komatsu hydraulic excavators and other construction equipment while supplied worldwide by Cummins.
KCEC is planning to embark on the commercial production of Tier 4-certified diesel engines for use in construction equipment. Tier 4 regulations will be in effect in Japan, North America and Europe in 2011. KCEC will continue to play the important role of a major supply base of the Komatsu Group for key components of Komatsu construction equipment featuring superior environmental friendliness and fuel economy.
