Bayer to Highlight Solutions for the Building and Construction Industry at AIA Convention 2015

Architects work with engineers, contractors, building owners and other decision-makers to create functional, attractive and sustainable buildings. They also rely on materials suppliers to help achieve their building goals.

For decades, Bayer MaterialScience LLC has been a leading supplier of polyurethanes, polycarbonate resins and sheet, and coatings, adhesive and sealant raw materials to the building and construction industry. Applications of these materials, including insulation, lighting, daylighting, security glazing and decorative stained concrete flooring, can be found in many of the structures where we live and work. Attendees of AIA Convention 2015 will have the opportunity to get a first-hand look at Bayer's solutions for the building and construction industry. Here's a preview.

Visitors to the company's booth (#959) will learn how using spray polyurethane foam (SPF) from Bayer and polyiso board featuring Bayer's polyurethane can be used as high efficiency insulation materials. Additionally, when used as part of a continuous insulation system, it is possible to meet energy codes for commercial and residential applications, while providing an attractive life cycle. Bayer experts will be available at the booth to talk about how polyurethane products help lower energy consumption to enhance building efficiency while also helping strengthen and support structures in harsh climates.

Another Bayer offering on display will be high-performing window stiffeners. These window stiffeners are formed from polyurethane composites and serve as an alternative to aluminum inserts.

Bayer will also spotlight several of its wide-ranging raw materials for coatings and sealants for the architectural and construction market. Combining functionality, sustainability and beauty, coatings utilizing Bayer raw materials can preserve and protect applications ranging from decorative stained concrete flooring, and high-performance wall and trim paints to fluid applied roofing and waterproofing membranes, and window and door sealants. A commercial architectural building model and large-scale samples within the booth will bring these and other applications to life.

Visitors can learn about the company's broad range of LED material solutions. These include specially developed LED grades of polycarbonate that feature high light transmission and diffusion, and light-diffusing technology for hiding LED "hot spots."

Bayer will demonstrate how its Makrolon® polycarbonate meets today's security and protection needs with countless design possibilities. Bayer's high-performance polymers can provide a transparent, aesthetically pleasing energy efficient and security solution.

Bayer will also share its materials expertise at the conference. Jim Lambach, manager, building and construction industrial marketing, and Gary Gardner, AIA, CSI, LEED AP, BD&C, industrial marketing channel manager, will present Performance and sustainability of polyurethane insulation in high-performing walls at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 15 in Theatre B. This Continuing Education (CE) session will provide a comprehensive look at the performance and sustainability of polyurethane insulation, including guidance about how to incorporate vapor-impermeable wall assemblies to obtain a higher, more balanced performance.

AIA attendees are invited to stop by Bayer's booth (#959) to learn more about the company's broad portfolio of materials and technologies for the building and construction market. They are also encouraged to attend the CE session.
