Ruby University Conducts Symposium on Constructability at NASCC in Florida

Ruby University conducted an innovative multi-part symposium on the benefits of constructability as a highlight of this year's North American Steel Construction Conference (NASCC) held May 11th – 15th in Orlando Florida.  Ruby University is a collection of resources and training on constructability principles managed by Ruby + Associates of Farmington Hills, MI.

For the several thousand participants at the conference, Ruby University was a unique opportunity to better understand "constructability," a fast growing and widely accepted design approach that applies in-depth construction knowledge and real-world experience to create efficient structural engineering results.  The notion behind constructability is to bridge the gap between design and construction.

Ruby University was led by Ruby + Associates, the firm synonymous with constructability.  The firm's founder, David Ruby, literally wrote the book on the topic, "Constructability of Structural Steel Buildings Design Guide" in collaboration with the American Institute of Steel Construction.  According to Ruby, constructability involves collaboration of building partners early in the construction process so that team members can anticipate issues and develop creative, thoughtful solutions while still in the planning phase.  "The results of a constructability approach are manifested in faster approvals, shortened schedules and reduced costs," said Ruby.  "Each of these issues is more critical than ever in the tough economic constraints builders are working under today."

Jay Ruby, President and CEO of Ruby + Associates said, "A focus on constructability can help team members more thoroughly comprehend project issues and positively impact the overall project and economic objectives.  Constructability streamlines the planning, design and construction sequence and ultimately delivers exceptional solutions to even the most challenging projects."
