Pierre Sprinkler & Landscape partnered up with DPR Construction in the annual National Rebuilding Day on April 24, 2010.
The beneficiary of this year's project was the Boys and Girls Club of Pomona. The project included a complete renovation of current facilities, including restrooms, computer lab, storage facilities, gym, playground area, as well as a blossoming garden in which Pierre crews were instrumental in constructing. Over 30 different contractors volunteered their time or donated materials. Pierre Sprinkler & Landscape was one of seven contractors that donated work and material.
After getting valuable feedback from the kids of the Pomona Boys & Girls Club, Pierre helped design the Club's new garden. Jason King, Project Coordinator for DPR, explained that Pierre "really helped us pick out plants that were suitable to grow in that climate and reasonable for kids to take care of."
The garden took two Saturdays to construct. According to Brian Butler, Pierre's Project Manager, the first Saturday was spent amending, roto-tilling, grading the soil and installing the irrigation, while the flagstones, bench and plant materials were installed the following Saturday. "It was great to see the project come together. The kids really took ownership of the project and assisted in plant placement and installation. It was exciting to see their faces light up on their progress," said Butler.
Upon completion, King's reaction to Pierre's contribution was "phenomenal. Pierre really turn-keyed the project. They came out there to make sure it got done and had a sincere desire to make it a quality project. It was a great experience."
For Pierre, it was great to give back to the community and make an impact in kids' lives.
