Thermalite

Stella House is a brand new office complex in Newcastle. Constructed on behalf of One NorthEast, the North East Regional Development Agency, by main contractors, Mowlem the building is largely constructed of Thermalite aircrete blocks.

Thermalite's sustainable blocks were specified for their excellent environmental credentials. Thermalite is made from up to 80% recycled material and is energy saving in its production and use, all of which contribute towards a positive environmental profile. Thermalite is also the only aircrete producer to be awarded Environmental Standard, ISO 14001.

By using a 140mm Thermalite block with a 25mm rigid insulation board, instead of a 150mm aggregate block and 75mm fibre insulation the overall floor space of the building to be substantially increased and the weight saving of Thermalite also increased productivity.
