USGBC Awards LEED Silver Certification to The Morgan at Loyola Station Apartment

McCaffery Interests, Inc is pleased to announce that The Morgan at Loyola Station has achieved LEED® Silver Certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

The LEED Green Building Rating System is the USGBC's leading ranking classification for designing and constructing the world's greenest, most energy-efficient and high-performing buildings.

In order to achieve LEED® Silver Certification, The Morgan at Loyola Station apartments meets LEED standards for energy use, lighting, water and material use and incorporates a variety of sustainable strategies. The Morgan at Loyola Station is a transit-oriented development located next to the CTA train station and multiple bus lines that further promotes alternative modes of transportation through a bicycle storage room, changing facility, and I-Go Car Sharing. The development employs green roof technology in combination with a second floor amenity garden to reduce storm water impact to sewer systems and reduce the building's radiant heat load. In addition, native and drought-resistant plants used in the landscaping reduce water and energy usage. Healthy air quality is created through the use of low VOC paint, carpeting and sealants. A variety of locally produced, recycled and sustainable materials are used in the construction.

"We are proud to be recognized by the USGBC for our company's efforts in building sustainable communities which reduce the negative impact on our environment," commented Daniel McCaffery, President and Founder, McCaffery Interests, Inc. McCaffery Interests has a 20-year history of environmental conscientiousness, focusing on developing and redeveloping urban infill sites in transit-oriented, pedestrian-friendly urban locations. This is the company's second LEED certification with others pending.
