Timmons Group, an ENR 500 Design Firm and a leader in civil engineering and professional consulting services, announced today that the firm’s recently completed Joint Use Intelligence Analysis Facility (JUIAF) project at Rivanna Station, Virginia, has received LEED® Silver Certification.
Rivanna Station is located just north of Charlottesville, Virginia, in Albemarle County and is a sub-installation of Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

We are very proud to be part of the design team that constructed this new home for the Defense Intelligence Agency, and it is also gratifying to know we have supported the work of our men and women in the Armed Forces.”
The JUIAF houses analytical functions of the Defense Intelligence Agency, a US Department of Defense combat support agency, and the National Ground Intelligence Center, a component organization of the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command. The JUIAF was constructed on a 46-acre site on the grounds of Rivanna Station that was acquired by the Army in 2006. Comprising between 168,000 and 170,500 gross square feet, the JUIAF has a designed occupancy of 1,000 people and parking for 625 vehicles.
The contract was issued as a direct result of US Department of Defense Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) actions that became law on November 9, 2005, and require implementation by September 15, 2011. It also followed a Finding of No Significant Environmental Impact (FONSI) issued by the Commander, US Army Garrison, Fort Belvoir, VA. The total design-build contract was worth $61 million, including the option to design and construct a new primary access control point and visitor control center for Rivanna Station.
Archer Western Contractors of Chicago, Illinois, was the design-build contractor for the project. Timmons Group, as a subconsultant to Michael Baker Jr., Inc., provided land surveying, civil engineering design, permitting and construction administration services for the project.
