KONE to Carry Out Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Terminal Escalator Modernization Project

KONE, a global provider of escalator and elevator equipment and services, declared that it has received an order from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Terminal Escalator Modernization Project to install 44 numbers of escalators in the airport starting from the end of July 2011. The project is anticipated to finish in June 2013.

KONE in addition to installing two new escalators will service and modernize the 42 existing units and will install KONE EcoMod in 10 units. The KONE EcoMod solution will allow replacing the total inner working of an existing escalator without taking off the existing truss. The proposed escalators will incorporate more efficient drive facilities and features and will automatically regulate the power usage and the speeds of the escalators intone with the usage and load. The new equipment when installed will provide a quiet and smooth ride and use a step chain that does not require greasing.

The company has associated with Turner Construction for the purpose of formulating a plan to perform the installations with least disturbance to end users and the existing facilities while improving the energy efficiency of the airport to cut down its ecological impact.

The new escalators will have at least 20% more energy efficiency than the presently used escalators. The new escalators will also cut down the expenditure on yearly repairs, downtime during maintenance and will provide a better customer service.
