Promega to Build cGMP Facility for Molecular Biology Products

Promega has broken ground at the Fitchburg-based 2800 Woods Hollow Road in Wisconsin for a “current good manufacturing practice” (cGMP) building that will enable advancement of its business and benefit its customers who require molecular biology products with FDA-standards.

Promega Corporation breaks ground on new facility to support regulated product manufacturing. Shown is the southwest view of building design from recent plans.

These products include reagents and sample preparation solutions for medical and diagnostic tests marketed by human medical test suppliers.

A major part of the 260,000 sq.ft building will be used for production and will include flexible production areas and fixed manufacturing lines. The facility will also house a customer experience center for visitors and employees, which will have training rooms, laboratory demonstration areas, a dining area, conference room and a fitness center. Bill Linton, CEO of Promega stated that molecular biology enabled a clear understanding of life and paved the way for the development of practical solutions that will promote public health. The building is a significant step forward supplying its products globally, he added.

Three companies have put together their expertise to conceptualize and implement the design of the facility. The complete design and public area will be taken care of by the Milwaukee-based, Uihlein-Wilson Architects, GMP facility design will be led by Philadelphia, P.A-based EwingCole and integration of the design as well as implementing sustainable building practices will be done by Archemy Consulting of Vancouver, B.C. The project contractor is Kraemer Brothers of Plain, WI.

Environment-friendly practices will be adopted for the project. Some of the approaches used will include dark sky compliant illumination, bio-retention ponds to store rain water, geothermal cooling and heating, prairie restoration. Several other sustainable practices will be adopted.
