The new building when completed will help Wister to extend and enlarge its research facilities and employ more staff to perform collaborative biomedical study in the promising fields. The new construction is designed to promote reciprocal action between the researchers to develop new ideas than can bring in results.

In tone with the growing demand for biomedical research, the institute proposes to earmark five floors in the new building exclusively to accommodate its laboratories to sustain its team science. Each lab floor with an open type of plan will be equipped with latest equipment and facilities to enable four key investigators and their staff to perform their functions and the scientists to team up in their explorations. The proposed ‘laboratories of the future’ will support the institute to explore into new biomedical research areas such as cancer, vaccines and genetics.

The proposed expansion project will have a new public entrance on Spruce Street to the institute to better its visibility and outreach. Its proposal for a 200-seat auditorium in the new construction to facilitate hosting public events and scientific symposiums, public spaces and lofty glass atrium will further improve the image of the building. The $100 million development is anticipated to get completed in the spring of 2014 and will create around 380 construction jobs during the period.
