The Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway is located proximal to the Georgia International Convention Center and is one of the most active U.S. airports. It had won the Silver LEED certification, recently by the USGBC.
The eco-savvy facility marked as one of the greenest hotels in the city encompasses 403-rooms and has been distinguished as one among the 41 hotels to earn LEED Silver distinction.
The Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway utilized 10% of recycled materials for its construction. It includes a white roof to minimize heat absorption. In addition, an irrigation and landscape design has been included to promote energy-efficiency by minimizing the water consumption by 50%. Compared to other non-LEED hotels, this green facility consumes 28 % less energy and 30% less water. Over 20% of the domestic building materials were obtained within a 500-mi radius. Energy efficient lighting, low-flow plumbing and shower fixtures, low-VOC paint, sealants and carpets, and utilization of non-coal produced energy are the sustainable features implemented in the facility.
Indoor air quality is regularly tested and monitored at the facility and guests are provided access to thermostats for controlling of personal environments. Further upgrades include hybrid rental cars, green meeting options and materials, recycling in centralized locations, paperless billing, and premium parking spaces for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles.
The accessible, complimentary light rail line, ATL SkyTrain, travelling via the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, leads to the nearby Georgia International Convention Center. Both the facilities are spacious enough with 321,000 sq.ft of meeting space.
